Local investors have an increasing number of options when it comes to ways to grow an investment portfolio. From public share markets to private equity, New Zealand investors have a range of online platforms to choose from to suit their investment style, risk appetite and needs.

We’ve outlined a few of the leading online investment platforms below.


Sharesies

Who is it for: Beginner to intermediate investors.

What it offers: A favourite with beginner investors, Sharesies allows you to invest as little as 1c. You can choose from over 8,000 publicly listed companies and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in New Zealand, Australia and the US.


Hatch

Who is it for: Beginner to intermediate investors.

What it offers: Hatch offers investors the chance to invest in prominent publicly listed global brands, such as Apple, Nike, Tesla and Amazon, along with ETFs. When you sign up, you access a US brokerage account, allowing you to own your shares and have voting rights on full shares.


Stake

Who is it for: Beginner to intermediate investors.

What it offers: Digital brokerage platform Stake offers investors the opportunity to invest in over 6,000 US stocks and ETFs. Investors can open an account online and start investing in minutes.


Kernel

Who is it for: Beginner to intermediate investors.

What it offers: Build an investment portfolio of index funds, with the choice to invest in Core or Satellite Funds (long-term or future tech funds). Investors also have the option to enable auto-investing or only invest in sustainable funds.


InvestNow

Who is it for: Intermediate to experienced investors.

What it offers: InvestNow provides access to KiwiSaver, Managed Funds and Term Deposits from leading fund managers and global banks. Investors can choose from 36 Kiwisaver funds, over 150 managed funds and flexible Term Deposits from six leading banks.


CMC Markets

Who is it for: Intermediate to experienced investors.

What it offers: CMC Markets is a global contract for differences (CFD) and forex broker that provides investors with the opportunity to trade shares, invest in spread betting, cryptocurrencies, and contracts for difference and foreign exchanges.


PledgeMe

Who is it for: Beginner to intermediate investors.

What it offers: Crowdfunding platform PledgeMe enables investors to fund equity, project and lend campaigns. Crowdfunding investment opportunities can range from community projects to businesses looking to raise growth funds. 


Snowball Effect

Who is it for: Beginner to experienced investors.

What it offers: New Zealand’s leading private equity platform Snowball Effect enables investors to invest in high-growth private businesses.
